University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire

Eau Claire, WIhttps://www.uwec.edu
The University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire has the characteristics of a top-notch regional public college: relatively low debt loads, above average graduation rates, and a not-too-big, not-too-small enrollment of about 10,000 undergraduates. The university was founded as a teachers college, and today is a public liberal arts college that offers about 80 majors spread over four colleges. Some of its most popular degree programs are in business, health, and education. Students regularly praise the scenery of the campus, which is on the Chippewa River, but know to expect cold, long winters in that part of the state. The nearest major city is across the state border in Minneapolis, an hour-and-a-half drive away. On campus there's wide support for sustainable projects, including the Living Learning Community, a residence hall that houses students interested in sustainability who examine their day-to-day effect on the environment. Meanwhile, many students participate in one of the campus's musical performance groups, whether it be the large marching band, choir, or jazz orchestra.
