Saint Louis University

Saint Louis, MOhttps://www.slu.edu
Saint Louis University is the oldest university west of the Mississippi and the second-oldest Jesuit university in the U.S. (That said, people from all faiths and identities are welcome.) It offers nearly 90 undergraduate postgrad programs; nursing, physical therapy, biology, psychology, and accounting are most popular. Other disciplines stand out as well. SLU has a solid aviation program, for example; it granted the world's first Ph.D. in aviation in 2013, and it has a rare online aviation management degree program. Other majors include aeronautics, biostatistics, German studies, and meteorology. SLU has a campus in Madrid, Spain, where undergrads, grad students, and law students can study a variety of subjects, including art history, economics, and Spanish. SLU has about 8,000 undergrads, and of them, fewer than 40% are from Missouri. The student body includes people from all 50 states and about 80 countries. Almost all freshmen get some sort of financial aid, and nearly half of the SLU class of 2017 graduated without any loan debt. Students at the university call themselves Billikens, after the school's mascot, a cheerful gnomish good-luck figure. Invented in 1908, he embodies "things as they ought to be."
