The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is a public school that could easily be confused for a private one thanks to its small size, residential model and liberal arts curriculum. That may be by design, as the college aims to keep talented New Jersey students in their home state in a region dense with higher ed options.
The college's outcomes are top-notch, especially for a public school: More than 85% of students graduate within six years, which places it among the top public colleges in the country.
There are over 160 programs to choose from, and the school boasts small class sizes. On average, classes have just 23 students. Popular degree programs include business, education, psychology, biology and nursing.
Approximately 7,500 full-time, undergraduate students attend TCNJ, and the majority of first-year students live on campus. TCNJ is located in Ewing, a suburb just outside of Trenton, and the campus is regularly ranked as one of the most beautiful in the country thanks to its tree-lined walkways and architecture.
Greek life is a major part of the TCNJ experience. There are over 30 Greek organizations at TCNJ, and about a quarter of the undergraduate student body is part of a fraternity or sorority.
