Rose-Hulman is especially well known for engineering, with programs for chemical, civil, computer, mechanical and electrical engineering. With an emphasis on hands-on training, it reports an average class size of 20 students, and they can expect plenty of personalized attention, with one faculty member for every 11 students. The city of Terre Haute, where Rose-Hulman is located, is also home to Indiana State University. The college town is located about 80 miles southwest of Indianapolis.

The aptly named Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers, comprising 20 varsity teams, compete at the NCAA Division III level. In the summer, the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts use the college’s state-of-the-art recreation center as a training camp.
